There are different options to reach the airport from the city center in Cairo, visited by many tourists every year. The services that the hotels usually offer or arrange for you and public transport are the first ones that come to mind.

Airport Transfer

Public Transport

It will be possible to reach the airport with the subway lines passing through Zamalek, Wasat Al-Balad and the Nile's eastern region, which we refer to as the center of Cairo, in a few years, but you can only reach the areas close by at the moment. Al Dock, Opera, Sedat (Tahrir) and Naguib are the metro stations close to the center.

You need to transfer to the Green Line at Attaba station from Yellow Line, which hosts the above mentioned stations.

Even if it does not reach the airport yet, you can get off at the Abbasiye station and complete the 15 kilometers distance by taxi or bus number 111. It is also possible to reach the airport by buses 27, 111, 356 from Tahrir Square where Sedat metro station is located.

Private Vehicle

Although it is a great merit to use private vehicles in Cairo, which is similar to Istanbul with regards to its traffic and size, there may be people who want to reach the airport by private vehicles. To do this, you have to follow the Oroba road, in the east direction, to go to the airport from Zamalek island and Tahrir in the city center.

Oroba route will take you to Airport Road, which will provide you with access to the airport, after 17 kilometers.

Airport Information

The airport, in the Heliopolis area, is the second airport in Africa with regards to passenger traffic. With the completion of the newly constructed terminals, there are also many possibilities offered for those waiting for their flight.

Bus

There are two options for the ones who wish to take a journey to the city centre by bus. Private shuttle busses of the airport runs at each 15 minutes from 5.10 to 23.55 during the day. Since these shuttle buses go to the city centre and come back without waiting, you should get off at the stop of Teatra Guaria. You can buy the bus cards (with weekly and monthly options) to be used in the public transport vehicles at the counters in the airport either in cash or by credit cart.

The municipality bus line 208 runs at each half an hour from 6 in the morning to 23.20 at night. These buses have numerous stops, therefore, you can get to the city centre half an hour later than the other buses. You can pay in cash in the bus.

Rent a Car

You can contact any rent a car firm such as Alamo, National, Europcar, and Avis to reserve a car in advance and if you give up on this idea, you can even cancel your reservation until the very last minute without paying any fee.
